Compassionate Leadership

“No one can control the wind or lock it in a box. No one has any say-so regarding the day of death. No one can stop a battle in its tracks. No one who does evil can be saved by evil. All this I observed as I tried my best to understand all that’s going on in this world. As long as men and women have the power to hurt each other, this is the way it is.”‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭8:8-9‬ ‭MSG‬‬

My everyday prayer is that all leaders might learn compassion. It is compassion that drives positive perception and it is compassion that engenders humility. I have seen a big man moved to tears by sorrowful tales yet the haughty goes on to add more woes to the sorrowful one.

Compassion reduces us to the level of the person beneath us and allows us to feel, see and perceive things from their level. Leaders who know compassion will drive agendas set to alleviate burdens and cull pain. The haughty ones will substitute straw for wood in brick making camps and yet increase production quotas.

“As long as men and women have the power to hurt each other, this is the way it is.”

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭8:9‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Compassion also carries power. The power not to hate, hurt or be haughty. Compassionate leaders carry a salve to save and heal and the opposite carry a mandate to depopulate the feeding trough.

When leaders know when and how to use power, they will have discovered compassion. When we lead without bloodletting we would discovered ourselves as humanity. Power is not to harm each other. Power is to carry each man past the storm and enjoy the security of brotherhood.

I choose compassion. I pray for compassionate leadership.
